Biography

Alex Tomer is an Associate Lawyer at Sutherland Law with a broad civil and commercial litigation practice. He works with individuals and businesses to resolve disputes in a practical and strategic manner.

Alex assists clients with a range of litigation matters, including commercial disputes, shareholder and corporate governance disputes, and property-related claims. He also has experience and interest in family, criminal, and employment law matters.

Before joining Sutherland Law, Alex practiced at a prominent national law firm advising First Nation governments, organizations, and community entities on a range of matters, including governance disputes, corporate and commercial issues, and litigation affecting organizational interests. Through this work, he gained experience navigating complex governance structures and advancing the strategic objectives of institutional clients.

Earlier in his career, Alex served as counsel with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, where he developed extensive courtroom experience and regularly appeared before the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia on contested matters from commencement through hearings and trials. 

Alex earned his law degree from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and holds a Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas University. He was called to the Bar in 2022.

Outside the office, Alex enjoys staying active, playing and watching basketball, and spending time with his two sons.
